Day Trips: California Redwoods are within a 90 minute drive from Grants Pass. Highway 199 from Grants Pass will take you directly to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and only 10 more miles to Crescent City. This makes for a fabulous day drive with plenty of time to hike in the Redwoods and/or enjoy the Smith River. The Smith River is a wonderful river for cooling off in, a very clear and clean body of water to enjoy your day in. We usually enjoy a hike through the Simpson-Reed Trail with lunch at the Jedediah Campground and a hike through the campground afterwards, all within a day drive from Grants Pass.
I highly recommend a stop off at the Hiouchi Visitor Center Park Store at Hiouchi Visitor Center (U.S. National Park Service) if you are not familiar with this area and would like to learn more about what this area has to offer.
