I wrote about this back in February. Many of us have experienced home insurance cancellations or skyrocketing premiums. Even with the wildfire map repealed, the rising cost of home insurance will continue. The wildfire map was never the true cause of soaring insurance rates, though it served as a catalyst for what is now happening. We are not alone, any state facing high risks from natural disasters is experiencing this crisis. California, Texas and Florida are examples of this same problem, raising cost of home insurance due to high risk. At some point we we will hit the top of the rates and it will level off. Until then, it is time to urge Insurance Commissioner Andrew Stolfi to pursue much-needed insurance reforms in Oregon. Subject: Urgent Need for Home Insurance Reforms in Oregon
Dear Insurance Commissioner Andrew R. Stolfi,
I am sure you are aware that Oregon homeowners are under attack by the home insurance industry. Oregon much like California, Texas, Florida and any other state that experiences high risk from natural disasters is experiencing skyrocketing rates and insurance companies leaving the state.
Oregon needs home insurance reforms desperately. States like Florida have modified their home insurance litigation methods to help reduce premiums in addition to offering incentives to attract new companies (which is already seeing success). Texas is overhauling their entire home insurance regulatory system in order to help mitigate these problems.
Oregonians needs help, help in the way of home insurance reforms to reduce skyrocketing costs and companies leaving the state. I urge you to please look into and find insurance reforms that may help fellow Oregonians as they struggle to make ends meet. Please be proactive before the home insurance crisis is out of control.
Sincerely,
Make them prove it was burned so they can charge higher rate, if never in 100 years never burned they are out of line. Sincerely Gena Hall Grants Pass
