The “Pork” Scam Exposed: Why Tax Hikes Aren’t Worth the “Bacon”

This is a first in a series of article in support of Rep. Dwayne Yunker.

Oregonians are tired of being taxed more and more every single year. I’ve been sounding the alarm on the wave of “bad bills” coming out of Salem that do one thing: reach deeper into your pockets.

Lately, some people have asked why our Representative, Dwayne Yunker, isn’t “bringing home the bacon” for Josephine County. It’s time for a reality check: Money from the state isn’t free.

Every dollar Rep. Yunker could bring back from Salem is just our own tax money taken from us first, then handed back as a “gift.” This is the “pork scam.” To get that money, a Representative usually has to trade a “Yes” vote on the very bills that increase your taxes in the first place.

Why should we pay higher taxes just so a politician can brag about bringing home a small fraction of what they took from us? Stop falling for the scam. Rep. Yunker is doing his job by refusing to trade your long-term financial freedom for a little bit of “cheap bacon.”

Why this matters right now
This message is particularly relevant because:

Oregon’s tax burden is rising: As of early 2026, reports show that Oregon’s state spending has consistently outpaced population growth and inflation over the last decade, leading to billions in “excess” taxation.

The Cost of “Horse Trading”: In a legislature controlled by a supermajority, minority members like Rep. Yunker are often pressured to support massive spending packages in exchange for local projects a trade that often hurts the district’s economy more than it helps.
