A multi-purpose recall effort is underway against county commissioners. Left-wing groups such as Rogue Indivisible and Citizens for Responsible Government (CRG) are working to turn Josephine County blue, working with disgruntled former department heads. These ex-department heads are pushing hard to ensure that unelected bureaucrats, rather than the people’s elected representatives, hold the real power in county government.
For years, Josephine County has faced a power struggle: should the county be run by the commissioners chosen by voters, or by department heads who were never elected? This struggle is at the heart of what’s happening now. The question is simple: do you want county government controlled by unaccountable department heads, or by the commissioners you elected to represent you?
Another red flag: why are some commissioners excluded from recall efforts, even though they have taken the same actions as those being targeted? Consider the recent public statement from former department head Sandy Novak (1), and notice who is behind this recall, the chief petitioners is a former department head himself. Other former department heads that are involved have a long history of filing ethics complaints against commissioners.
This is not just about one recall—it’s about who runs Josephine County. Left-wing groups see an opportunity to exploit the department head vs. commissioner power struggle to flip a conservative stronghold. They may deny involvement, but the evidence is plain. Their board members and administrators appear to be directly involved in the recall committee, helping to organize and gather signatures. Their members are also on the ground pushing the effort.
Don’t be fooled by this talk of a “bipartisan” recall as these groups use closet democrats (republicans) to claim a bipartisan effort as a window dressing. But these so-called republicans have never once done anything to support fellow conservatives but have done everything in their power to recall fellow conservatives.
We have a full blown power struggle taking place in our county government. You decide who you want running the county, elected officials or un-elected department heads.
