A Conservative Choice for Oregon and Josephine County

Opinion

This November, voters have an opportunity to choose leaders who believe government should be accountable, fiscally responsible, focused on public safety, and responsive to the people it serves.

For many Oregonians, the question is simple: Is the current direction delivering the affordability, economic opportunity, and effective government our communities need? Those who believe Oregon needs a different approach have an opportunity to vote for leaders who emphasize practical solutions, careful spending, and respect for taxpayers.

State and National Races

Christine Drazan is running for governor with a focus on affordability, public safety, stronger communities, and economic opportunity. Her campaign offers voters a different approach from the current Democratic administration and continued one-party control in Salem.

The conservative ticket also includes:

  • David Brock Smith for U.S. Senate
  • Cliff Bentz for U.S. Congress
  • Dwayne Yunker for Oregon House District 3
  • Alek Skarlatos for Oregon House District 4

These candidates represent Southern Oregon voters who want government to be more accountable, transparent more responsive to working families and small businesses, and more careful with public resources – accountable.

Local Leadership Matters

County government affects the services people see most directly: public safety, roads, property records, elections, budgeting, and the management of tax dollars.

In recent years, Josephine County has faced substantial budget decisions, including adoption of annual property-tax levies, supplemental-budget changes, and a proposed 2026–27 county budget of about $189 million.

County leaders describe these decisions as necessary to balance the budget and maintain services. Others believe the county needs a more cautious long-term approach that places greater emphasis on cost control, efficiency, reserves, and clear oversight.

That difference of opinion is at the heart of this election.

  • John West, candidate for Josephine County Commissioner, Position 1, supports closer review of county spending, efficient government, and lower taxes where possible.
  • Chad Hansen, candidate for County Commissioner, Position 2, offers voters another fiscally conservative voice on the Board of Commissioners.
  • Simon Hare, candidate for Josephine County Treasurer, is seeking an office that requires careful stewardship, transparency, and responsible management of public funds.

Together, West, Hansen, and Hare offer a message many county residents can support: essential services should be funded responsibly, taxpayer dollars should be protected, and local government should be open, transparent, disciplined, and accountable.

A Vote for Balance

This election is not about attacking neighbors or dismissing those who see issues differently. It is about deciding what priorities should guide Oregon and Josephine County in the years ahead.

Voters who want a stronger focus on fiscal responsibility, limited and effective government, public safety, economic opportunity, and local oversight have a clear slate of candidates to consider:

  • Christine Drazan for Governor
  • David Brock Smith for U.S. Senate
  • Cliff Bentz for Congress
  • Dwayne Yunker for Oregon House District 3
  • Alek Skarlatos for Oregon House District 4
  • John West for Josephine County Commissioner, Position 1
  • Chad Hansen for Josephine County Commissioner, Position 2
  • Simon Hare for Josephine County Treasurer

The general election is Nov. 3. Oregon voters have a meaningful choice: maintain the present direction or support leaders who will bring a more conservative, fiscally careful, and accountable approach to public service.
